Ingredients

    Grand Marnier Cranberry Sauce
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup red wine
  • 3 cups fresh cranberries (12 oz bag)
  • 1/3 cup Grand Marnier (or other orange liqueur*)

Directions

  1. Wash your cranberries and pick them over for duds.  Test questionable looking berries by bouncing them.  If they don't bounce, they're no good.  Be careful, the good ones will bounce all over the place.
  2. Stir together sugar, wine, and 1/4 cup water in a heavy pot until blended.
  3. Add cranberries.
  4. Bring to a boil.
  5. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring often, 8-10 minutes or until cranberry skins start to split.
  6. Remove from heat.  Let cool 15 minutes.
  7. Use an immersion blender or potato masher to mush up the cranberries to the desired consistency.
  8. Stir in Grand Marnier.
*Grand Marnier is a very high quality and expensive orange liqueur.  Cointreau is the next best, and followed by the cheapest, Triple Sec.  It's good whichever you use.
